#1 BMX Kung Fu
Nice Guy Rob writes in with a link to this Hilarious scene. Itís fairly self-explanatory. Bicycles donít kill people, people with bicycles kill peopleÖor something like that.
#2 Sexy Trashman Followup/Director Sam Lerma Responds
hey mark, saw the blog, thanks for the write up. I'll let you know when i have a screening. It shouldn't be until March though. I'm editing someone else's film right now, so once I'm done with that I'll focus on my sexy trashman.
Molten Pits of Hellfire
On Friday, John Mata unveiled a new exhibit at Sala Diaz. Jesse from 180 Grams Records was part of the show selling records again.
Commerce as art. Art as commerce.
I don't want to give away too much. Look for a full write up in an upcoming issue of the Current.
Let's just say you can't spell party without "art", or something like that.
Incident at the ďRussian BarĒ
Chris Smart spinning 60s pop was the general idea. I was told it would be Italian film soundtrack. A relaxed environment all around. An occasional Monkee song. All this and more is to be found Monday nights at the Webb House by El Milagrito on St. Mary's Strip. The bar in the back was being referred to as the "Russian Bar" (without quotes, or more likely, people using little peace sign/bunny ears, but I'm still not clear if there's an official name for the bar.)
A falling down drunk outside on the patio made things dynamic. Help was offered. A taxi was called, which seemed to assume that rationality was still in grasp. The bulls showed up but of course too late and short on ideas. I canít imagine how far she could have gone. It took her 10 minutes to move 3 inches from the patio floor, yet somehow she eluded the long arm.
And then she was gone...a la Kaiser Soze.
Sanding wood that night, I missed out, almost, on the closing night of the Leslie Raymond curated video exhibit at Blue Star UTSA Sattelite Space.
But then after I thought I was the only one showing up late, a small group gathered. The work was diverse, from ethereal to political.
Though many people were next door at Blue Star for Betty Ward's show, everyone was impressed with work overall.
Overall, a quiet, reflective night at the Sattelite.
High Ankle Anxiety
Rumors on Spurstalk.com, via a French newspaper, claim that French Spur Ian Mahinmi is out for the season and will have ankle surgery. The Spurs donít seem to have commented on this yet, perhaps out of shock and disappointment. Itís impossible to say if he was going to be able to contribute this year, but his lingering injury and now season ending surgery seems to symbolize the bad luck hanging over the team.
And yet, the Spurs still have a really good record. The consensus is that the team canít beat the Lakers this year, but there still a contender. With some luck (i.e. bad luck for other teams) the sun might eventually shine on the team this year.
And will they win a title this year? Too soon to say. But there are lots of teams that would love to have the Spurs problems. The Spurs are still good and the Clippers still are not. There still is order in the Universe. And if the Spurs can beat the Suns again tonight then moods may lighten. Itís not like Ian was playing any meaningful role anyway this year.
More to follow later...
And so goes another week on the streets of San Antonio. As always, to be continued...
