Exponential Records spins into new monthly

You read about it here, now see the label live in action. Exponential Records moseys into the Mine Shaft Saloon (902 NE Loop 410, behind the Magic Time Machine) with Let's Be Friends, a new monthly music series featuring live music acts and DJs this Saturday night. The show starts at 10 p.m. and the best part: it won't cost you a cent to get in.

Let's Be Friends plans to offer an eclectic mix of music with a revolving set of artists and DJs every installment. For the inaugural throw-down, A.M. Architect brings some downtempo electronica to the mix, while Rae Davis unleashes old funk and soul vinyl on those in attendance. Johnny Walker moonlights from his weekly F**k Yeah! gig at Limelight with a grab-bag of dance floor fillers. Adrian and DJ Acrylic present the finest in retro, electro, and bass-driven grooves.

This is a great opportunity for barhoppers to check out one of the up-and-coming spots on the S.A. scene. The Mine Shaft Saloon, tabbed a "dive bar in disguise" by The Current last month, is a hipster haven waiting to happen. And judging by the acts finding their way onto the stage at the kitsched out environ, this Saturday could be a sign of things to come.

Remember how awesome the Magic Time Machine was when you were a kid? Well, throw in a bar, some arcade machines, enough space to flail your limbs around Elaine-from-Seinfeld style, and one of the fastest growing record labels in town playing some beautific sounds. It should add up to one hype night. My only hope is it gets so rowdy the famed Magic Time Machine salad car makes an appearance under the disco ball. Requests for "Car Wash," anyone?
