That slight tremor you felt last month in the space-time continuum? SA’s taco-specific mobile-food universe has been hit by a sugar bomb: Saweet Cupcakes is now making the rounds of San Antonio high life — Pearl Brewery, the Legacy Outdoor Market, Taco Truck Fridays at Artpace. The three-week-old venture is piloted by sisters-in-law Tien Friedberg and Kehmay Arriola, whose menu includes Chocolate Peanut Butter and Coconut cupcakes, seasonal specials such as Pumpkin Cream Cheese, and a monthly vegan option (for the holiday season it’s chocolate-peppermint). They usually have at least seven varieties on hand, provided you arrive early enough. Their hours at Pearl, for instance, are Wednesday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., or until they run out. Look for them in front of the Full Goods building, where they also park Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (or until ... ).

Arriola is married to Mark Arriola of SoGo Café [see the Fast Foodie, December 2], where Saweet makes (and sells) their treats. The hardest part of Kehmay’s new gig? “Finding the right location,” she says. “Mobile vending has not caught on here the way it has other places ... there’s more to mobile vending than tacos. We are gourmet food even though we’re in a truck.”

Artpace’s Matt Johns and the Current’s Bryan Rindfuss give top reviews to Saweet’s Dark Red Velvet cupcake. “Their cream-cheese frosting is perfect,” says Johns.
